It's all for the lil' kiddies
Slightly preachy page for the Just One Page Charity Anthology for the Bristol Comic Con in May...
I've gotta admit I'm pretty much gay for Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack, and if you've never read any of the comics, I suggest you remedy that situation immediately. They're an amazing mixture of extremely cute characterization and close-up shots of diseased internal organs. All this and pathos, too. READ. THEM. There were two volumes published by Viz a few years ago.
Dylan Dog, on the other hand, is an Italian horror comic. I don't usually go for horror in any way, but since the comic's status as Italy's favourite fumetti meant Dark Horse translated some a few years ago, and volumes of it turn up on eBay every once in a while, I'm not complaining, as it's a great opportunity to ogle fantastic artwork from Italy's finest Comic book artists. Like Angelo Stano, Giampiero Castertano, Corrado Roi and Pierro Dall'Agnol. Another attractive thing about the series is that it's set in London, and seeing London drawn like it's a foreign place is always interesting. Pop-fact: Dylan's looks are actually based on Rupert Everett. Hows about that, ladies..?
Hello, you.
I've been meaning to get a Journal as another art outlet for blummin' ages. I have website fear, you see. Updating the thing with thumbnails and tweaking layout just 'cos you've scribbled something new can be a bit tedious sometimes. So, I'll be lobbing art on here as I do it, secret and interesting things, doodles of no consequence and all that good stuff.
Before the lobbing can begin, here's a few ground rules I've set down for myself:
-No moaning
-No whining
-No whinging
-No backbiting
-No wailing
-No gnashing of teeth
-No griping
-No bitching
-No sulking
-No self-importance
-No memes
-No quizzes
-No posting reams of bad song lyrics
Excuse me while I put on my 'wank hat' but I know some of these go up against blog conventions... Guffaw. If I break any of these, please slap me about a bit. Nothing but a continuous ART FEST from here on in kids!
And if you catch me writing little articles about something about something or other, tell me to get back on with the proper work. Ta.
Shall we get cracking..?
